Sport Performance Management (SPM) is an international consulting firm based in Colorado Springs, USA and Canberra, Australia. The company was founded in 2009 and since then has provided a broad range of services to clients in over 20 different countries in all Olympic/Paralympic, non-Olympic/non-Paralympic summer and winter sports, across the complete range of sport from youth to high performance.

Dr Davis has extensive experience across the full range of sport – from youth sport to high performance/professional sport, including but not limited to … athlete development pathways, coach development, talent identification, and integration of Sport Sciences, Sports Medicine and Sport Technology management – however when the circumstances require it he activates an international team of experts who specialize in a wide range of sport development strategies, training/recovery and competition management, Sport Sciences/Sports Medicine/Technology Management and high performance training center design and management. 

BIO of Dr Davis

Dr Davis has worked in elite sport management for over 30 years.

Originally from Australia, Dr Davis received his MSc from the University of Oregon and his PhD from the University of Minnesota in the USA.

He has had a diverse and unique career in several countries and different sport systems. He has been a high level sport physiologist, a coach in the US collegiate system (Asst Volleyball Coach University of Oregon) and a high performance sport administrator. He has worked with professional sport teams, Olympic and Paralympic Teams and amateur non-Olympic teams at all levels, all ages and all sports.

Dr Davis started his career in elite sport in 1981 as an Exercise Physiologist for Nike Inc, working with some of the best Track and Field athletes in the world at the Athletics West Track Club.

Since 1992 he has worked at the Australian Institute of Sport, first as a high performance Exercise Physiologist, then with the “Olympic Athlete Program” to help prepare Australian athletes for the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics.

After the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Dr Davis joined the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) as Director of the Coaching, Sport Sciences and Technology Division. At the USOC he was directly involved in the preparation of US Olympic and Paralympic teams for the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games, the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games and the 2006 Torino Winter Olympic Games. 

In 2005/2006 Dr. Davis was appointed the General Manager of the High Performance Unit for Australian Rugby.

In the lead up to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games (2006 – 2010) Dr Davis was named the Director of Sport Sciences, Sports Medicine and Technology for ‘Own The Podium’, an Olympic preparation program for Canadian athletes for both the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, as well as future Canadian Summer and Winter Olympic Teams (2006-2008).

Dr Davis is now the Director and Founder of Sport Performance Management, and consults with Olympic and Paralympic teams, National Olympic and Paralympic Committees, National and International Sport Governing Bodies, the International Olympic Committee, National Sport Ministries and individuals in countries across the globe (including India, New Zealand, Singapore, Great Britain, USA, Botswana, Belize, Jordan, Switzerland, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, Federated States of Micronesia, and Canada) in all areas of high performance sport planning and sport development.

In his work with various clients Dr Davis focuses on strategic planning and organizational structure, program evaluations/capability audits, policy and program development and implementation and professional development and training of key staff in areas of sport and performance management. Dr Davis has been responsible for developing professional development programs for sport leaders to incorporate leadership, technical expertise and personal achievement in over 20 different countries across the globe and has been involved in building international level performance programming in Canada, Australia, USA, India and the UK.

In addition to his high quality work with various teams and countries Dr Davis is also a lecturer in Sport Management at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, USA, and a well-respected speaker on all areas of performance management and has delivered dozens of presentations around the world including scientific congresses, international conferences and community based organizations.
